It feels like only yesterday
When you were there by my side
We sit alone under the stars
And talk away into the night
A shooting star passes by
You close your eyes and make a wish
As the wind touches your hair
Your shadow seems to grow lighter
Waiting forever for you
Calling your name in the wind
Counting the stars we have seen
Watching the sky of our dream
You told me that nothing lasts forever
Only the stars so far above
What if our love could reach the sky
Would our hearts always be together?
When will I see your innocent smile again?
Pray to the stars, I'll wait for eternity
Singing the song of your heart, but you're not here to listen
Hold back the tears in the night, feeling the pain within
All alone on this Earth, surrounded by grass so green
Spending my time in regrets of what it could have been
Everything seemed to last by your side
I made a wish under the starry sky
To the night that shone so bright above
That we would never be apart...
To me, "Trip The Life Fantastic" was a must-buy on "Bandcamp Friday" this time. It's one of the few "Drifting Sun" albums not already found in my collection, and an essential one, because it marks the beginning of the prolific collaboration of composer/keyboardist Pat Sanders and lyricist/singer Peter Falconer, which was, in my opinion, the best creative pairing the band ever had. Discovering this album has been one of the surprises of 2021, not least because I can't believe I hadn't found it before. It has echoes of some of the finest prog rock bands from the 1970s, with superb instrumentation and arrangements, and vocal harmonies that would be the envy of many a musician. followjohnreed
